The Flying Elk Cluster
by Deborah K. Lauro
The Mersue community depends on a blending of the Elsue and Merree, and at age fifteen each Elsue is bonded to a Merree to form a family cluster. Nehma is now fifteen and is ready to begin his trial period with the Elsue the elders have chosen to be his brother for the rest of their lives. If they are successful, someday they may be allowed to have wives who will give them large families just like the Nehma’s own family now. Little does Nehma realize how his life and goals will change when he is assigned Jorn, a silent, aloof Elsue who failed his bonding last year.
