This bookmark is stitched on blue 18ct aida with Needle Necessities overdyed floss. Overdyed floss is variegated, and each stitch is completed as you go (instead of the traditional method in cross stitch of laying one leg (/) of the X across the row, and then returning by laying the second half of the stitch (\).
Colors used on the model are:
Use 2 strands of floss for cross stitches and for the half stitches of the water. Overdyed floss cannot be "folded" to make 2 strands because the colors will not coincide. You need two identical strands going in the same direction to achieve the color change in the model. However, "folding" may give you an interesting watery look. Use 1 strand of NN 116 for backstitching the words. When finished, machine stitch around the design three squares away from the cross stitching. Fringe to within one square of machine stitching. |
