Dear Crocheter;
Mint Melody can also be used to hide a roll of bathroom
tissue. Of the three dolls in this set, she will work up the quickest for
that last minute gift. Any two shades of the same color that you have on
hand will work fine. It will also be interesting with two different colors,
such as white for the main color and light blue for the points. However
you decide to make her up, I'm sure you'll be pleased. Happy crocheting,

Materials needed
1 red-haired porcelain-look doll by Fibre-craft
3 oz Light Mint worsted-weight yarn
3 oz Mint worsted-weight yarn
1 oz White baby pompadour yarn
4 snaps - size 4/0
1 package of 10 white ribbon bows (8 needed)
5" of white 4mm string pearl beads
1/2 sheet 7 mesh plastic canvas (bathroom tissue option)
Small amount of sewing thread
2 craft pearl-headed corsage pins (optional)
F and D crochet hook or size for gauge |

Gauge:
With F hook and worsted weight yarn - 7 dc = 2"; 4 sc rows = 1".
With D hook and pompadour yarn - 6 sc = 1".

Doll Preparation
Cut 4" piece of 4mm beads and place around neck of doll, gluing together
in back. Cut 1 bead apart and glue to ear for earring. Repeat for other
ear.
For Bathroom Tissue option also:
Remove legs from doll. Cut out 1 piece of 7-mesh plastic canvas for sides
according to Fig. 2, and 2 pieces following Fig.
1, 1 for front and 1 for back.
Whipstitch one long edge of a front piece to long edge of one end of
side piece. Whipstitch the back to the other long edge of the same end
of side. Insert other end of side (part not connected to front and back)
through leg holes. Whipstitch to unused edges of front and back. Piece
should be a long, almost square tube that will fit inside a roll of toilet
tissue.
Special Stitches
Working in Back, Front or Both loops: Usually a stitch is worked
over the two top strands of the stitch below it. When the pattern says
to work in Front Loops Only, insert your hook into the top loop closest
to you, starting the same way you would normally insert the hook, and ending
by coming up between the two top strands. When the pattern wants you to
work in the Back Loops Only, insert your hook inbetween the two top strands
and out the back of your work.
Sc next 2 stitches together: Insert hook in first stitch,
yarn over hook, draw through stitch, (2 loops on hook), insert hook into
next stitch, yarn over hook, draw through stitch, yarn over hook, draw
through all 3 loops on hook.
Double Triple crochet (dtr): Yarn over hook 3 times. Insert hook
into stitch, yarn over, draw through stitch, (5 loops on hook), (Yarn over,
draw through 2 loops on hook) 4 times until only one loop on hook.
Changing Colors: Work last stitch of color to within last step.
For last step, grab new color with hook and complete stitch. Carry unused
color on wrong side of work, working over yarn.
Bodice
Row 1: With Mint, starting at the neck edge, ch 22, sc in second
ch from the hook, sc in next 3 chs, 2 sc in next 2 chs, sc in next 9 ch,
2 sc in next 2 chs, sc in last 4 chs. Finish off. (25 sts)
Row 2: Turn. Join Light Mint in front loop of st just worked.
Working this row in front loops only, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 3
sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts,
2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in last 4 sts.
(29 sts)
Row 3: Working in Both Loops now, ch 1, turn, sc in first 5 sts,
2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 9 sts, 2
sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in last 5 sts.
(33 sts)
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 6 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in
next 19 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in last 6 sts. (35 sts)
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 5 sts, ch 4, skip next 8 sts,
sc in next 9 sts, ch 4, skip next 8 sts, sc in last 5 sts. Armholes made.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc and each ch across. (27 sts)
Row 7: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 8: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 6 sc, sc next 2 sts tog, sc in
next 11 sts, sc next 2 sts tog, sc in last 6 sts. (25 sts)
Row 9: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 10: Repeat Row 9.
Skirt
Row 11: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn, dc in same st, *dc
in next st, 2 dc in next st,* repeat between * around. (38 sts) Skip first
ch 3 and next dc, sl st into next st. Dress is worked in rounds from now
on.
Row 12: Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next
st,* repeat between * across, ending dc in last 2 sts, join with sl st
into top of beginning ch 3. (48 sts)
Row 13: Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next
st ,* repeat between * around, ending dc in last 3 sts, sl st into top
of beginning ch 3. (60 sts)
Row 14: Ch 3, dc in next st and each st around, sl st into top
of beginning ch 3.
Row 15: Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next
st,* around, ending dc in last 4 sts, sl st into top of beginning ch 3.

Row 16: Repeat Row 14.
Row 17: Ch 3, dc in same st, *dc in next 8 sts, 2 dc in next

Row 18: Ch 3, dc in next st, join Mint, *with Mint dc in next
st, with Light Mint dc in next 9 sts,* repeat between * around, ending
with Mint dc in next st, with Light Mint dc in last 7 sts, sl st into top
of beginning ch 3.
Row 19: Ch 3, *with Mint dc in next 3 sts, with Light Mint dc
in next 7 sts,* repeat between * 6 more times, ending with Mint dc in next
3 sts, with Light Mint, dc in last 6 sts, with Mint sl st into top of beginning
ch 3.
Row 20: With Mint ch 3, dc in next 4 sts, *with Light Mint dc
in next st, 2 sc in next, dc in next st, 2 dc in next, dc in next, with
Mint dc in next 5 sts,* repeat between * 6 more times, ending with Light
Mint dc in next st, 2 dc in next, dc in next st, 2 dc in next, dc in next,

Row 21: With Mint ch 3, dc in next 5 sts, *with Light Mint dc
in next 5 sts, with Mint dc in next 7 sts,* repeat between * 6 more times,
ending with Light Mint dc in next 5 sts, with Mint dc in last st, sl st
into top of beginning ch 3.
Row 22: With Mint ch 3, dc in next 6 sts, *with Light Mint dc
in next 3 sts, with Mint dc in next 9 sts,* repeat between * 6 more times,
ending with Light Mint dc in next 3 sts, with Mint dc in last 2 sts, sl
st into top of beginning ch 3.
Row 23: With Mint ch 3, dc in next 7 sts, *with Light Mint dc
in next st, with Mint, dc in next 11 sts,* repeat between * 6 more times,
ending with Light Mint dc in next st, with mint dc in last 3 sts, sl st
into top of beginning ch 3. Finish off Light Mint.
Ruffle
Row 24: Working in Front Loops Only, with Mint, ch 3, 2 dc in same
st, *3 dc in next st,* repeat between * around. (288 sts)
Row 25: Working in Both Loops, ch 3, dc in next st and each st
around, sl st into beginning ch 3. Finish off.
Row 26: With D hook, attach White Pompadour yarn with sc in next
st, ch 3, sc in same st, ch 3, *(sc, ch 3, sc, ch 3) all in next st,* repeat
between * around, ending with sl st into beginning sc. Finish off.
Dress Trim
The trim is worked in surface crochet. Hold dress right side up.
Using D hook and Pompadour yarn, insert hook into bottom of one of the
points in the back, and bring it up in the next hole along the line formed
where the mint and light mint colors meet. Yarn over hook, pull through
dress and loop on hook. *Insert hook in spot where hook came up from the
last stitch and bring it up in the next hole. Yarn over hook, pull through
dress, yarn over hook, pull through both loops on hook,* repeat between
* all the way around the dress where the two colors meet. There will
be approximately two stitches per double crochet row.
Sleeves
Rnd 1: With Light Mint and F hook, join with sc in first ch loop
left under arm hole made in Row 5 of Bodice. Work 2 more sc under
arm, sc in stitch on side of arm, hdc in next 3 sts, dc in next 2 sts,
hdc in last 3 sts, sc in side of arm hole. Do not join. (13 sts)
Rnds 2-4: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 5: Sc next 2 sts together, sc in each st around. (12 sts)
Rnd 6: Repeat rnd 5. (11 sts)
Rnd 7: Sc in each st around. Sl st into beginning sc. Finish
off.
Rnd 8: Join Mint with sc in same st as sl st of rnd 7.
Sc in each st around. Finish off. (11 sts)
Rnd 9: With Pompadour yarn and D hook, join with sc in a st under
the arm on rnd 8. (Ch 3, sc, ch 3) in the same st, (sc, ch 3, sc, ch 3)
in next st and each st around. Sl st into beginning sc. Finish off.
(22 ch-3 loops)
Repeat for other sleeve.
Collar
Row 1: With Light Mint and F hook, holding dress upside down, join
with sc in second unused loop of Row 1 of Bodice. Sc in next 2 sts, *2
sc in next st, sc in next st,* repeat between * 2 more times, sc in next
6 sts, repeat between * 3 more times, sc in next 2 sts. (29 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 3 sts, * 2 sc in next st, sc in
next 2 sts, * repeat between * 2 more times, sc in next 6 sts, repeat between
* 3 more times, sc in last 2 sts. Finish off. (35 sts.)
Row 4: With Mint join with sc in first st of row 3, *sc in next
4 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat between * 5 more times, sc in next 4 sts.
Finish off. (41 sts)
Row 5: With D hook and Pompadour yarn, join with sc in first
st of row 4, (ch 3, sc, ch 3) in same st, (sc, ch 3, sc, ch 3) in next
st and each st across to last st, ending (sc, ch 3, sc) in last st. Finish
off.
Belt
Row 1: With Mint and F hook, ch 28, sc in second ch from hook and
in each ch across. (27 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first 10 sts, hdc in next st, dc in
next st, tr in next st, dtr in next st, tr in next st, dc in next st, hdc
in next st, sc in last 10 sts. Finish off.
With Pompadour yarn and D hook, join with sc in first st of Row
2 of Belt. (Ch 2, sc) in next 12 sts, (ch 2, sc, ch 2, sc) in next st,
(center st of belt), (ch 2, sc) in last 13 sts. Finish off.
Working on opposite side of belt, join pompadour yarn with sc
to free loop of starting ch across from last st worked. (Ch 2, sc) in next
st and each st across. Finish off.
Hat
Rnd 1: With Light Mint and F hook, ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from
hook. Do not join, work in rounds. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in first sc of Rnd 1, 2 sc in each of next 5 sts.
(12 sts)
Rnd 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st,* repeat between * 5 more
times. (18 sts)
Rnd 4: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat between *
5 more times. (24 sts)
Rnd 5: *Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat between *
5 more times. (30 sts)
Rnd 6: *Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st,* repeat between *
5 more times, sl st into next st. (36 sts)
Rnd 7: Working in Back Loops Only, ch 1, sc in same st and next
3 sts, sc next 2 sts together, *sc in next 4 sc, sc next 2 sts together,*
repeat between * 4 more times. Sl st into beginning sc. (30 sts)
Rnd 8: Ch 1, sc in same st and in each st around, sl st into
beginning sc. Join Mint.
Rnd 9: With Mint, ch 1, sc in same st and each st around, sl
st into beginning sc.
Rnd 10: With Light Mint, ch 1, working in Front Loops Only, work
2 sc in same st, 3 sc in next st, *2 sc in next st, 3 sc in next st,* repeat
between * around, sl st into beginning sc. (75 sts)
Rnd 11: Working in Both Loops now, ch 1, sc in same st and each
st around, sl st into top of beginning sc. Finish off Light Mint.
Rnd 12: With Mint, ch 1, sc in same st and each st around, sl
st into top of beginning sc. Finish off Mint.
Rnd 13: With D hook , join Pompadour Yarn with sc in next st,
(ch 2, sc, ch 2) in same st, (sc, ch 2, sc, ch 2) in next st and each st
around, sl st into first sc. Finish off.
Finishing
Sew 3 snaps along back opening of bodice of dress. Sew one snap on ends
of belt. Put dress on doll and place belt on doll so that snap is in back
and point is in down in front. Glue ribbon bows to top of each point on
skirt. If desired use corsage pins to hold hat in place on head.
